Obituary of James Houston

HOUSTON - James Ralph
Originally from Charleston, MS, died after complications from cirrhosis in Buffalo, NY, on Monday, October 1, 2018, at the age of 64. Raised on a family farm near Charleston, he and his two siblings spent the remainder of their childhood in Starkville. He attended Mississippi State University and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He loved motorcycles, airplanes, and making corned beef. He sang tenor for the First Baptist Choir in Tupelo and performed in Handel's Messiah. He was a kind man who worked hard, including more than two decades at Cockrell Banana Company in Tupelo. He was a loving father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Nell Templeton Houston, of Starkville, his father, William James Houston, of Charleston, his stepdaughter, Shelah Michelle Dye, of Tupelo, and his sister, Barbara Houston Garrett, of Jackson. He is survived by his daughter, Laura Houston Santhanam (Gowri), of Washington, D.C., his brother, Bruce Houston (Carroll), of Dothan, AL, his nieces, Bonnie Garrett and Lisa Houston Williams (Barry), of Dothan, AL, his nephew, David Houston (Emily), of Denver, CO, and his granddaughter, Vera Santhanam. No prior visitation. His remains will be interred during a private service in the family plot at Rocky Branch Cemetery in Charleston.
