Jim was a classmate friend for many years in the Delevan-Machias school in Delevan, which became Pioneer Central during our final year there in 1966-1967. One nickname he had was Weems, an affectionate one I have no idea how he got. Probably just a shortened version of his last name, something that kids like to do. I was unaware of his passing until learning about it on Facebook this October. He was always one of the good guys who never had bad things to say about others. He was also a tax accountant who operated his own shop in Yorkshire, N.Y. and for a time I know, had a residence at Twin Lakes Trailer Court. His parents had a farm just outside of Delevan to the south, just off of Route 16.
Actually the last time I saw him was at our 50 year reunion in Lime Lake in 2017 and I've included a picture of him there. While I know little about his passing, I do know that he was a valued member of our class and will be missed.

Jim was my 1st cousin once removed (my mother Margaret Laidlaw Johnson and Jim's mother Ellen were first cousins). I was close to Ellen and her sisters are my mother died in 1976 at age 58. I keep in regular touch with Jim's brother Bob and have fond memories of Jim from visits to the farm. I always enjoyed talking with Jim and we had many thoughtful discussions. I always thought it was nice that he stayed in the Delevan area maintaining the Laidlaw ties to the area. I am saddened by his passing at such a young age and would like to extend my sympathy to Debbie and Chad at this sad time.
I was so sad to hear of Jim's death. Death is such a shock, even when someone is very ill.
Jim and I spent so much time together these past months. We talked about many interesting things! He was a wonderful person and I will really miss him. /A
